Microsoft R Open is the enhanced distribution of R from Microsoft, and supports a variety of big data statistics, predictive modeling, and machine learning capabilities.

This version of Microsoft R Open is customized for Microsoft R Server 2016. It supports the packages provided by R Server for scalable, distributed R solutions. Although the enterprise tools are not required for basic R package development, by installing R Server, you can use R packages that have been enhanced to use parallel processing and run in a scalable environment. You can also use R Open to easily build R packages using your own custom code, or use additional packages that you download from CRAN.

Important! This custom version of Microsoft R Open is a prerequisite for Microsoft R Server 2016. In most cases, R Open is automatically installed for you during the installation of R Server.

Install the R Open for R Server Hadoop Cloudera Manager Parcel

       For instructions on how to install the parcel, click here.

 

Install R Open for R Server on SLES, RHEL, or CentOS

  1. Log in as root or a user with sudo privileges.
     
  2. Make sure R is not running. Stop every R process prior to installing. You may need to close your IDE.
     
  3. Make sure the system repositories are up-to-date prior to installing R Open for R Server. This command will not install anything, but rather ensures that the repositories contain the latest software.
     
       - On RHEL/CentOS use: sudo yum clean all
     
       - On SLES 11 use: sudo zypper clean --all
     
  4. Download the R Open for R Server installer for your platform from the table above.
     
  5. Change to the directory where you downloaded the R Open for R Server installer.
     
  6. Run the R Open for R Server installer:
     
       - On RHEL/CentOS use: sudo yum install microsoft-r-server-mro-8.0.tar.gz
     
       - On SLES 11 use: sudo zypper install microsoft-r-server-mro-8.0.tar.gz
